Kanuga is a non-profit, year-round Episcopal camp, conference, and retreat center that was founded in 1928.

Our mission is to invite all people to connect with each other, nature, and the Creator. "All people" refers not only to those of our faith, but to ALL people. This inclusivity is indeed a cornerstone of our faith.

We hope you will come to know our mission of hospitality during your stay, and that you will share in it by offering the same to your fellow guests. Kanuga is a warm, welcoming community of people who share an awe of nature and the power it has to transform, restore, heal, and inspire.

In 1928, Bishop Kirkman Finlay envisioned a place in the mountains of Western North Carolina, rooted in the Episcopal Church, grown from the love of Jesus, and open to all people.

One of the longest running summer camps in western North Carolina, Camp Kanuga is an American Camp Association-accredited overnight and day camp affiliated with The Episcopal Church.

Camp Kanuga is a place where all are welcomed and accepted. We provide a safe and supporting environment for children to explore beyond their comfort zones, grow in their faith, and stretch their limits. At camp, we seek to build relationships within a safe and loving Christian community.

Our programs, which include day and overnight camp as well as leadership development and expeditions, are designed to encourage transformation and growth. Camp is a unique community that intentionally reinforces an awareness that we are part of something special - and bigger - than ourselves.

Mountain Trail Outdoor School (MTOS), primarily for Grades 4-8, welcomes public and private schools for residential field trips.

Our trained and credentialed outdoor educators work directly with your school to create an experience tailored to fit your goals, whether they be for programming within your state's science curriculum, team-building, or fun outdoor-based adventures.

MTOS has a detailed program planning guide and teacher resources for science and ecology studies to complement what you're doing in the classroom.

In addition to hosting retreats for churches and other groups, Kanuga also offers a menu of its own conferences for both young people and adults. These are planned throughout the year with a wide variety of interests and focus areas. Examples of adult conference topics include knitting and quilting, iconography, music, and Christian formation and renewal.

Twice annually, Kanuga hosts youth conferences: Youth Week in summer and Winterlight in December. These are planned under the umbrella of our Kanuga Empowered Youth (KEY) program, which serves all youth seeking empowerment, inspiration, and community. We incite participants into a vibrant nationwide fellowship that fosters connection and leadership within the Church and in the world.

Kanuga is a nonprofit organization that relies heavily on the generosity of its donors and supporters. 1,400 acres, 160 buildings, two summer camp campuses, an outdoor school, dozens of programs, and 20+ miles of hiking trails is a lot to maintain.
